On October 20, 2011, the IRS informed ALEPH that as of October 6 donations to ALEPH were temporarily not tax-deductible.*
We have now filed the requisite paperwork to remedy this situation. While it can take six to nine months for the IRS to evaluate our filing, by law we can expect retroactive tax deductibility to December 28, 2011 -- the date of filing.
Fees for events (Ordination Programs and Beit Midrash tuition and fees, Ruach HaAretz retreats, etc.) are not affected.
We have been in touch with all sustaining donors with automatic monthly or annual pledges, and anyone who has given a one-time donation since October 6, regarding how to handle the interim period.
If, like many of our supporters, you do not need a tax deduction, we hope you continue to give generously to ALEPH now.
If a tax deduction is important, please wait until we alert you that our application has been received. If you have any questions, please contact David Brown, ALEPH’s Operations Manager.
*A few years ago, ALEPH experienced the quick turnover of three bookkeepers, preventing us from timely filing required IRS forms. Our bookkeeping records are now back in shape. New staffing and systems will ensure that this won’t happen again. However, we missed the deadline for submitting, which triggered the IRS temporary revocation.
